Rationale:
The North Star Project
Term: September 2024-August 2025
Amount: $25,000
Scope: The North Star Project will provide consulting services for the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School Just Begin Project Initiative. Sonia Sotomayor students at the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School will engage in a residency that culminates in the creation of an original children’s book called Just Begin.
• This residency will foster the students’ capacity for expressive writing and visual and digital art creation while enhancing confidence, focus, engagement and a sense of personal and collective agency.
• The curriculum modules will be scaffolded to promote the critical social-emotional, academic and leadership skills essential to individual and collective character development. An enhanced emphasis will be placed on fostering socio-emotional skill-building through a strength-based approach through a social justice lens that centered the values of dignity and worth of person.

Resolution
WHEREAS the Board of Education wishes to enter into a contract with The North Star Project to provide consulting services for the Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School for the 2024-2025 school year,

WHEREAS the district administration has designed in conjunction with The North Star Project a program which meets the objectives set forth by the Board and the New York State Education Department, and,

WHEREAS the Board of Education authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to enter into an agreement with The North Star Project to provide these services, and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Education hereby authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to enter into an agreement with The North Star Project at a cost not to exceed $25,000.00.
