Rationale:
On August 31, 2021, a Yonkers Public Schools (In/Out District) Transportation Services emergency declaration was approved due to the nationwide drivers' shortage. Yonkers Public Schools had approximate 1000 students without trip assignments. From our existing vendors- VP Buses and Phillip Trans offered to support the district in the general and special education categories (non-awardees ) in need of transportation services. NYSED agreed to extend the emergency contract to December 31, 2021 with the stipulation that the YPS release a bid prior to the expiration date.  
Funding:
Phillip Trans- $745,685.50- not to exceed
VP Buses - $250,000-not to exceed

Resolution
WHEREAS, an Emergency Declaration was issued on August 31, 2021, as school district emerge from the COVID 19 pandemic, Yonkers Public Schools had approximate 1000 students without trip assignments. The nationwide driver shortage directed impacted Yonkers Public Schools and delayed transportation services for newly enrolled, special education needs, displaced and foster care students.

Whereas under the emergency declaration VP Buses & Phillips Trans agreed to support Yonkers Public Schools students and were awarded an emergency contract for general and special education transportation services (in/out of district).

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Superintendent of Schools contacted NYSED representatives and the emergency transportation contracts were authorized an emergency contract past the 31 days and schedule to expire on December 31, 2021. Meanwhile, Yonkers Public Schools published a bid to secure vendors with cost effective rates to guarantee service for the 2021-22SY.
