Rationale:
|
By Resolution 18.8 dated December 18, 2019 the Trustees of the Board of Education authorized the award of Contract 2020-0461 for CIP 10851 “Gas Conversion” at Roosevelt High School – Early College Studies to Mengler Mechanical, Inc. for $566,000.00 and a term of 365 calendar days.
This is to authorize the award of Change Order 1 in the amount of $30,817.68 increasing the contract to $596,817.68 and extending the term to 1,278 calendar days.
Change Orders COP 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10 & 11 are considered due to unforeseen conditions and this includes:
• Relocating a concealed 3” waste pipe and 2” water line in the way of the new gas pipe.
• Add 113 square feet of additional asphalt pavement replacement.
• Due to Con-Edison design changes and delays, the installation of the meter rig assembly has to be added due to the contract for this work by the District’s Plumber, had expired.
• Due to Con-Edison design changes and delays the temporary above ground oil tank rental fees and removal has to be added.
The total value of unforeseen conditions is $60,739.02.
Change Orders COP 4, 7 & 9 are owner directed extra work and this includes:
• Moving stored contents and relocated cast iron radiator in the way of the new gas piping.
• Provide new electric domestic hot water heater for summer programs and custodial cleaning while the gas domestic hot water heater is off line to perform the gas conversion work.
The total value of owner directed extra work is $7,792.46.
Change Order COP 1 is for deleted work. After bid, Con-Edison revised their designs allowing the District to reuse the existing meter rig, deleting the need for a new meter rig and related interior gas piping. The total value of this credit for deleted work is in the amount of $35,000.00.
The amount of extra work is $95,817.68; less the contingency of $30,000.00 and credit of $35,000 for deleted work, a balance change order of $30,817.68 is required. |

Ladies and Gentlemen:
WHEREAS: By Resolution 18.8 dated December 18, 2019 the Trustees of the Board of Education authorized the award of Contract 2020-0461 for CIP 10851 “Gas Conversion” at Roosevelt High School – Early College Studies to Mengler Mechanical, Inc. for $566,000.00 and a term of 365 calendar days, and
WHEREAS: in the course of executing the contracted work it was determined that additional work was required to be performed, and
WHEREAS: the fee for this added work is for the negotiated lump sum price of $95,817.68, and
WHEREAS: the contract contingency of $30,000.00 and credits for deleted work in the amount of $35,000 is to be allocated to this change order requiring a balance of $30,817.68 to be covered by additional funds increasing the contract amount from $566,000.00 to $596,817.68, and
WHEREAS: a contract extension of 1,278 calendar days is required to complete the work, extending the term to 1,643 calendar days.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Superintendent of Schools is hereby authorized to issue Change Order 1 to Contract 2020-0461, “Gas Conversion” at Roosevelt High School – Early College Studies to Mengler Mechanical, Inc., 1689 Route 22, Brewster, NY 10509 for $30,817.68 increasing the contract from $566,000.00 to $596,817.68 and the term to 1,643 calendar days. |
