Scope: To support the Yonkers Public Schools Multilingual Learner Literacy through the Arts program, this service will provide hands-on professional learning workshops for teachers of Multilingual Learners to introduce students to the writing genre of poetry, to afford MLLs opportunities to write and share poetry as a SEL practice, to transition MLLs to a more structured writing among many genres across the curriculum, and to teach students how to analyze and produce metaphoric language structures. In addition, participants will engage in job-embedded professional learning through coaching and mentoring to provide ongoing support and to tailor the application of the workshop learning to the teachers’ individual instructional context. Lastly, this service will engage in a needs assessment of the target population with a pre and post survey analysis.

WHEREAS the district administration has designed in conjunction with Brett Elizabeth Blake, Ph.D. a meets the objectives set forth by the Board and the New York State Education Department, and,
WHEREAS the Board of Education authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to enter into an agreement with Brett Elizabeth Blake, Ph.D. to provide these services, and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Education hereby authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to enter into an agreement with Brett Elizabeth Blake, Ph.D. at a cost not to exceed $20,000. It is acknowledged and agreed that pursuant to the terms of that certain intermunicipal agreement by and between the City of Yonkers Board of Education (“BOE”) and the City of Yonkers (the “City”) as filed in the Office of the City Clerk on June 16, 2014, the terms of this agreement are subject to review and revision by the Corporation Counsel, as well as approval by the City’s Board of Contract and Supply. Furthermore, this Agreement shall not be enforceable until signed by both parties and approved by the Corporation Counsel’s Office.
