Rationale: Term: 2022-2023
Amount: $45,866.37
Scope: Inactive Scholarships have been part of both internal/external
Audit concerns for several years. As such, this year Auditors concluded
BOE must consolidate such scholarship funds after exhaustive outreach
to Sponsors. As of February 2023, BOE, Finance Department and
Administrations have exhausted outreach and conclude to consolidate
identified inactive scholarships and create The Yonkers Public Schools
Leadership Scholarship (see attached) to be awarded to one student per
high School, awarded in the May 2023 Club 90 Awards by a Board Member
And every year to follow; until funds are exhausted.
Funding: Existing Inactive Scholarship Funds held by Finance Dept.
Resolution: WHEREAS the Board of Education wishes to consolidate the funds of the inactive scholarships of the: Gladys Stein Scholarship, Howard S. Cohen Scholarship, J. Moren Scholarship, Joan E. Chertok Scholarship, John E. Daniel Scholarship, Nicolette R. Murray Scholarship, Phillip Soohoo Memorial Scholarship, Five Star Scholarship, Eve Forman Scholarship, Frank Santilli Scholarship, G. Sherman Scholarship, Malone Scholarship, Melia Scholarship, Rose Mehmeyer Scholarship

WHEREAS the district administration has been directed by the Finance Department by external/internal audit concerns to conduct outreach. Exhaustive outreach has been conducted with no response. BOE met with Auditors and Finance Department and concluded to consolidate inactive scholarships and award to deserving students at the Yonkers Public Schools during the end of the 2022-2023 school year.

WHEREAS the Board of Education authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to enter into an agreement to consolidate inactive scholarship funds.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Education hereby authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to consolidate funds of the above stated inactive scholarships.

It is acknowledged and agreed that pursuant to the terms of that certain intermunicipal agreement by and between the City of Yonkers Board of Education (“BOE”) and the City of Yonkers (the “City”) as filed in the Office of the City Clerk on June 16, 2014, the terms of this agreement are subject to review and revision by the Corporation Counsel, as well as approval by the City’s Board of Contract and Supply. Furthermore, this Agreement shall not be enforceable until signed by both parties and approved by the Corporation Counsel’s Office.
