Rationale:
|
The Commissioner's Regulations specify that a district that seeks to register a public school shall submit a petition for renaming to the Board of Regents. This is to rename and dedicate the Yonkers Film and Television Production Academy, Grade 6 to Grade 12, with the Board of Regents of the State of New York (on the campus of what was originally (Rising Ground)-Carol and Frank Biondi Center) to The Robert Halmi Sr. Academy of Film and Television and to approve the school's logo for public use.

WHEREAS the Commissioner's Regulations specify that a district that seeks to rename a new public school shall submit a petition for renaming to the Board of Regents, and WHEREAS a proposal has been communicated to the President and all of the Trustees of the Board of Education to rename and dedicate the Yonkers Film and Television Production Academy (Temporary Name) with Board of Regents of the State of New York (on the campus of what was originally (Rising Ground)-Carol and Frank Biondi Center) to the Robert Halmi Sr. Academy of Film and Television, and WHEREAS the District, through the process of opening this school this upcoming September 2024, is committed to preparing the future workforce in arts-based industries, and WHEREAS the District, through a partnership with Great Point Studios has developed and laid the foundation for this school, and WHEREAS the District will also adopt and ratify the official use of the attached selected logo, and WHEREAS the District celebrates and pays homage to the life and accomplishments of Robert Halmi, Sr. who through his legacy and his family's contributions to the City of Yonkers, has provided a platform for experiential learning that connects the private sector and the public education sector creating new innovations and possibilities, and WHEREAS Robert Halmi, Sr. exemplifies a true commitment to creativity and the Arts, and who lived a life of extraordinary adventure, from underground resistance fighter in WWII to daring television producer, creating over 200 productions and earning 133 Emmy Awards, leaving behind a legacy of cinematic excellence and larger-than-life storytelling, and WHEREAS Robert Halmi, Sr.'s boundless creativity and relentless pursuit of excellence made him a legendary figure in both television history and in the hearts of those who worked with him, embodying the spirit of adventure until his passing at the age of 90, and WHEREAS students for generations will celebrate his legacy as Robert Halmi, Sr. will remain an amazing role model inspiring a love for the Arts, learning and courage, and WHEREAS the Trustees have reviewed and affirm that the request meets the criteria set forth in Policy 7500 – Naming and Dedicating School District Property. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that we, the Members of the Board of Education, do hereby affirm the renaming and dedication of the Robert Halmi Sr. Academy of Film and Television.
