This is to rename Palisade Preparatory School, Grades 7 to 12, and to dedicate it to honor the significant and far-reaching contributions of the 44th President of the United States Barack H. Obama.

Resolution: WHEREAS a proposal has been communicated to the President and all of the Trustees of the Board of Education to rename and dedicate Palisade Preparatory School the Barack Obama School for Social Justice, and WHEREAS President Barack Obama is recognized for his work and contributions to uphold the Constitution of the United States to ensure equity, access and equal representation for all, and WHEREAS President Obama was the first African American United States President and the first African American President of the Harvard Law Review, and WHEREAS President Obama championed social justice as a community organizer, lawyer, professor and United States Senator, and WHEREAS President Obama’s national movement, My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, to address the persistent opportunity gaps boys and young men of color face ensuring all young people can reach their full potential, and WHEREAS the Barack Obama School for Social Justice will embrace the universal values of social justice, service and equity to maximize the potential of every student who enters the school, and WHEREAS students for generations to come will celebrate the life of President Barack H. Obama whose legacy will remain as a stalwart role model inspiring courage, service, and a love for learning, and WHEREAS the Trustees have reviewed and affirm that the request meets the criteria set forth in Policy 7500 – Naming and Dedicating School District Property. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that we, the Members of the Board of Education, do hereby affirm the renaming and dedication of the Barack Obama School for Social Justice.
