Rationale: This is to dedicate the newly renovated auditorium at Lincoln High School to honor the significant and far-reaching contributions of Josephine A. Caruso, former music teacher who passed in April 2018 and a 1950 graduate of Yonkers High School.
Funding:
Resolution: WHEREAS a proposal has been communicated to the President and all of the Trustees of the Board of Education to dedicate the newly renovated auditorium at Lincoln High School to honor the significant and far-reaching contributions of Josephine A. Caruso, former Lincoln High School music teacher who passed in April 2018, and

WHEREAS Ms. Caruso is recognized for her contributions to music education in the Yonkers Public Schools for 39 years and for 37 years at Lincoln High School, and

WHEREAS Ms. Caruso was an active involved member of the Yonkers community where she lived throughout her life, and

WHEREAS Ms. Caruso served as the chairperson of the Lincoln Performing Arts Department throughout her tenure at the school. In 1986, she was instrumental in the development and implementation of the districtwide Performing Arts Magnet Program at Lincoln High School that is still performing today. Ms. Caruso spent countless hours after school and during the evenings preparing for school productions, encompassing all phases of the performing arts. As a result of Ms. Caruso’s hard work, the music gained a respected reputation not only in the city but throughout the State, and

WHEREAS Ms. Josephine Caruso’s tireless efforts to give her students and the community the very best can be seen in the countless enjoyable performances by Lincoln and All-City choirs at holiday and community concerts throughout the City of Yonkers, Westchester County and New York State, in the accomplishments of many of her graduates, and in her legacy the Lincoln High School Performing Arts Academy, and

WHEREAS the newly renovated auditorium will be a beacon for the City of Yonkers attracting high quality community and professional performing arts productions and concerts, and

WHEREAS the Trustees have reviewed and affirm that the request meets the criteria set forth in Policy 7500 – Naming and Dedicating School District Property.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that we, the Members of the Board of Education, do hereby affirm the dedication of the Josephine A. Caruso Auditorium at Lincoln High School.
