Rationale:
|
This resolution is to grant the administration the authority to enter into the subject contract. In compliance with General Municipal Law 103, this was let for public bids which were opened in public and read aloud on March 5, 2021. A total of seven (7) bids were received, with the highest bidder at $860,000 with an average of $625,052; this included all three alternates. The work was designed by Eisenbach & Ruhnke Engineering PC (E&R) and was estimated to be approximately $300,000.
After interviewing the apparent low bidder and confirming that they understood the scope of work, their bids were found to be correct, confirmed references, and a successful history with the District, E&R along with this Department is recommending the award of the subject contract to Vernon Hills Contracting Corp.
CONTRACT 5, Site Construction work includes but is not limited to replacement of select sidewalks, replacing the handicapped ramp to the gym, replacing the large set of steps from Riverside High School to Museum School 25, replacing fencing and a deteriorated catch basin, providing concrete bases for new exterior lights and grading and stabilizing an eroded slope.
Overall, CIP 10874 includes the renovation of 23 restrooms, creation of two new unisex ADA units, upgrades to interior finishes (wall board), new ceilings in the kitchen, select window restoration, provision of “Places of Refuge” in stairwells, new Hi Tech Security system, select exterior & interior door replacements and new signage. Site work includes the installation of fire egress sidewalks and stairway for the north end of the building. This area is to be lighted with battery electric provided by solar and wind turbine power pole lighting. The project budget is $5.1 million.

WHEREAS: in compliance with General Municipal Law 103 public bids opened on March 5, 2021 for RFB 6583 Contract 5 of 5 General Construction Site Work, CIP10874 “Interior Renovations, Doors, Security and Site Work” at Riverside High School, and
WHEREAS: seven (7) bids were received and read aloud in public, and
WHEREAS: such bids were duly examined and as a result the administration has determined that Vernon Hills Contracting Corp., is the lowest responsive and responsible bidder at $384,747.00 including three alternates.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that Contract RFB 6583, Contract 5/5 GC Site Construction Work CIP10874, “Interior Renovations, Doors, Security and Site Work” at Riverside High School, to Vernon Hills Contracting Corp, 395 MacQuesten Parkway, Mt. Vernon, NY 10550 for $384,747.00 for a term of 365 calendar days.
