Scope: To provide two in-person professional development workshops on the Science of Reading Fundamentals for certified staff members. Workshops will provide support in learning about the research-based building blocks of reading instruction. The microcredential workshops will cover the five pillars of reading - phonemic awareness, phonics (including alphabetic principle and orthography), fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Resolution:

WHEREAS the Board of Education wishes to enter into a contract with SUNY New Paltz to purchase consulting services to support the Science of Reading Fundamentals Microcredential program for the 2024-2025 school year,
WHEREAS the district administration has designed in conjunction with SUNY New Paltz a program which meets the objectives set forth by the Board and the New York State Education Department, and,
WHEREAS the Board of Education authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to enter into an agreement with SUNY New Paltz to provide these services, and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Education hereby authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to enter into an agreement with SUNY New Paltz at a cost not to exceed $6000.00.
